Bloomin' Marvellous?

It's been a wet start to the day, although I can now spy fluffy clouds and blue sky, so I thought some rose pictures might lift the spirits.  BUT, my question is,,,

Is it normal for roses to be blooming in November??  Three roses bushes are valiantly shining through, and another has a number of tight buds in preparation.

Is this the usual run of things?

Answers on a postcard please.

Runaway Piglets

You have to laugh when upon leaving work and wandering to the car-park, you are almost mown down by a litter of escaped piglets!  Apparently this is quite a common occurrence at my new school - let's hope the herd of South Devon cattle are less adventurous!?

"You can't stay in your corner of the forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes".

A. A. Milne - Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet

DID YOU KNOW.....
  • Pigs are sprinters — and like to zig-zag around as opposed to running in a straight line.  A domestic pig can run at speeds of around 17 km/h, and wild pigs can run even faster. Even though they can weigh up to 91 kilograms each, a wild pig can run at speeds of around 50 km/h.
  • The pig was one of the first animals to be domesticated over 6,000 years ago. The Chinese were the first to raise wild pigs for food.
  • The first book written about hog farming was in 3468 B.C. by Emperor Fo Hi, China.

Sent home from School!

Well, you couldn't make it up!  I know I have said this before, but this is a classic.

The day started with the boiling up of saucepans of water to enable a strip-and hair-wash.  This is because the combi-boiler is on the blink and is due to be replaced (at GREAT cost) next week (lockdown permitting), so not an ideal morning ritual.  I then drove to my new place of work, for my first day.  It was an easy journey, the sun was shining, the traffic moving at a decent pace, no waiting in queues and arrived with a good ten minutes to spare.  Always beneficial for a positive first impression!

BUT... after an hour's work I was sent home from school!  This is because my DBS (security check) has not come through yet.  I do have one for my other school job (arrived today) but a separate DBS is required for each employer / premises.  Bureaucracy gone mad?
So, hopefully, the DBS for Bredon School will come through this week and I can get on with it - again.

In the meantime, here are a few photographs of the school  surroundings - not bad for an early November morning.
